FAQ

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Feel free to wear something comfortable. Do not wear makeup, concealer or sunless tanner. This is necessary to ensure an accurate result. Please also avoid perfume, as it wears off onto the drapes. If you wear glasses, I will ask you to remove them periodically during the analysis, so clear contact lenses may be a better option.

What if my hair is colored or is greying?

Colored or highlighted hair will be covered with a neutral grey cap during the analysis to ensure an accurate result. It can be removed at the end if you would like a photo in one of the drapes in your season. We can also discuss natural hair colors that fall in your color tone.

Natural gray hair is no problem, it’s just that - natural. No need to cover your hair for the analysis.

Can I bring my child, partner or friend?

Unless your child is receiving their own color analysis, I recommend leaving little ones at home. An older child who is interested in observing is welcome to join you. This is your time to enjoy, so feel free to bring a friend or partner along, it's a fun process to observe.

I have had my colors done by someone else, will my results be different?

If you were analyzed in a different method, it is very likely you will have a different result. If you were typed in the 4 Season Method (which only has options for warm or cool undertones), you will likely get a different, more specific result with the 12-Tone Method because it has options for neutral (warm-neutral or cool-neutral) undertones, which is 2/3 of the population. This method is more scientific, reliable and proven beyond the 4 Season approach. It's a great way to get the most accurate and specific result.

Similarly, if you were analyzed virtually or digitally, it is very likely you will have a different result. Digital images are unreliable; computer monitor calibration varies widely and does not present color accurately.

Can I take photos or video during the analysis?

Video is not allowed during the color analysis and photos are by permission only. The drapes and the analysis process are the intellectual property of TCI and are protected from media use. You will have the opportunity at the end of the session to take a beautiful photo in one of your drapes and also a “before” photo. It’s amazing to see the comparison.

Can I do this if I don't live in Washington, DC?

I frequently see clients who are traveling through the DC area. But color analysis must be done in person, it is not possible to achieve an accurate result virtually. Digital images are unreliable; computer monitor calibration varies widely and does not present color accurately. If you are planning a trip to DC, add District Color Studio to your itinerary.
